The Spread of Ideological Colonization

By Bill May

Another example of what Pope Francis describes as “ideological colonization” was evident this week as the U.S. State Department filled the newly created position of Envoy for the Human Rights of LGBT Persons.

When I conducted a seminar on marriage last year in Rome for legislators from around world, legislators from Africa shared how the U.S. and the U.N. are putting pressure on their countries to change their culture related to marriage and family. They observed only Christian countries seem to be targeted in Africa, never Muslim. One attendee described this as cultural imperialism.

Matt Hadro reports on this new development in this article. He focuses in the implications for religious liberty in the U.S. and abroad. That certainly is important, but considering the consequences for the family and current and future generations of children, the human and social costs of these effort are tremendous. Look at what has happened in our country as a result of the sexual revolution and a corrupted understanding of marriage and family.

Fewer young people are marrying and fatherlessness has skyrocketed. Every child is a risk today because of these powerful cultural influences.

It is important to look beyond defending our own religious liberty and to stand in solidarity with the children in third world countries as we must do with our own children through the movement to take back marriage.
