Archbishop Cordileone Joins Marriage Reality Movement Launch

“There is no bishop in the United States who has done more for the promotion and defense of marriage than San Francisco’s Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone,” said Catholics for the Common Good Institute president, Bill May. “We are so happy and humbled to announce that he will be a key part of the launch of the Marriage Reality Movement on September 24 in Philadelphia, just before the arrival of Pope Francis.”

“Cordileone means ‘lion-hearted,’ and that is exactly who he is,” May continued. “It is no wonder that he was selected by his brother bishops to lead the USCCB Subcommittee on the Promotion and Defense of Marriage.”

Archbishop Cordileone is also known as the father of Proposition 8, the measure to put the definition of marriage between a man and a woman in the California constitution, only to have it overturned by the recent Supreme Court decision.

“From the beginning, the Archbishop has been one of the most key and loyal supporters of what has become the Marriage Reality Movement.”
